BRAG Human Services director, Garth Stockton, received word in December that the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has approved BRAG's application for "continuum of care" funding in the amount of $48,000. The funds will be used to pay rent for homeless persons and families as they progress towards self-sufficiency. Stockton said that the funding will be important to combine with small amounts of funding from other sources to help address the problem of homelessness in the Bear River Region. One of BRAG's many roles is that of a Community Action Agency. Dating back to the Federal Economic Opportunity Act of 1964, the nation's more than 900 Community Action Agencies have worked diligently to combat the causes and conditions of poverty. BRAG's Human Services Department continues the community action tradition by providing essential help and support to low-income households with counseling, referral, and emergency services. During the past year a total of 863 households, 230 of which were homeless, received help from the trained human services staff at the Logan or Brigham City offices. Related Links:
